The A.R.D. operates immediately and, powered by a bank of storage batteries brings the car to the nearest floor and opens the automatic doors.

The A.R.D. equipment operates automatically upon occurrence of a main blackout. It drives the winch gear motor by means of a static frequency converter powered by a bank of storage batteries, brings the car to the nearest floor and opens the automatic doors.
